The Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing [IT-BPO] Industry is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing sectors in the Philippines. The IT-BPO Industry plays a major role in the country's growth and development. This Industry is made up of eight sub-sectors. These are, The Knowledge Process Outsourcing and Back Office, Animation, Call Centers, Software Development, Game Development, Engineering Design and Medical Transcription.
Since the BPO Industry in the Philippines is becoming a key developing Industry, primarily due to the relatively low cost of living and a workforce which composed mainly of young and educated Filipinos, with good spoken English language skill, the majority of international research and data companies have placed the Philippines as the Number One Trending Country as the Top Outsourcing Destination.

SYKES entered the Philippines in 1997 and is considered the first multinational BPO player to enter the Philippines. SYKES' entrance was the result of it's acquisition of nineteen seats from McQueen LTD. Prior to acquisition, McQueen was headquartered in Galashiels Scotland, focusing on Inbound Call Centers Support, Software Fulfillment and Customer Service Application and Foreign Language Translation and Localization.
eTelecare Global Solutions was also one of the early call center players, which it subsequently divested itself from in April 2004 as a Publicly Listed Company. eTelecare was founded in November 1999 by Jim Franke and Derek Holley.
In 2015, the Philippines replaced Mumbai, India as the 2nd ranking BPO destination in the world and is intending to maintain a high position in the Top 10 Worldwide Outsourcing Destination that was dominated by India in 2017.
